As part of the eco3 project, the course 2 “Sustainability” will be tested from 20 to 24 of March in the course of a Learning, Teaching & Training Activity at FH Campus Wien.
Lecturers from all partner countries and universities will design a total of seven units about this course. Students from all eco3 partner countries will also be part of the activity. These include Austria (FH Campus Wien), the Czech Republic (Ostrava University), Germany (Catholic University Eichstätt-Ingolstadt) and Romania (Babes Bolyai University).
The Learning, Teaching and Training Activity is structured into five theory units and two visits of social enterprises in Vienna. The activity will start with an online kick-off meeting on 10.03.23 to give a first insight into all materials and the detailed programme of the week.

Unit 1 – Definition of Sustainability | In this unit, the different aspects of sustainability are explained. The main aim is to gain basic knowledge about the concept of sustainability and their specific forms. In addition, the sustainability debate and its tensions are discussed in more detail. | |
Tuesday (21.03.2023) | Unit 2 – Milestones and important international developments | We will take a short view from the 1960s, when public awareness of environmental protection increased, to important movements of our time, like Fridays for Future or the European Green Deal. |
Unit 3 – Visit “WienWork” | WienWork is an organisation in Vienna that provides and arranges jobs and training places for people who are disadvantaged in the labour market. They enable people with disabilities, chronic illnesses or long-term unemployed people to participate in economic and social life. | |
Wednesday (22.03.2023) | Unit 4 – Dimensions of Sustainability | The different dimensions of sustainability – environment, social/health and economic are explained in detail. In the field of economic sustainability, there are some alternative economic and social systems. Examples of these are the common good economy, the degrowth/post-growth economy and the doughnut economy, which are considered in detail. |
Thursday (23.03.2023) | Unit 5 – Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) | The SDGs are global goals and were adopted at a United Nation summit in 2015. All 17 goals will be explained in detail and we also have a look to their relation to sustainability and social economy/social work. |
Unit 6 – Visit “Volkshilfe” | Volkshilfe is an organisation in Vienna that provides social services for people in need. The focus of their work ranges from the areas of care and support to poverty reduction, labour market policy, child care, work with people with disabilities and providing humanitarian aid in case of disasters at national and international level, as well as asylum and migration work. | |
Friday (24.03.2023) | Unit 7 – Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) | The theoretical content is completed by different working tasks. The participants will do a research, about the status of implementation in their own country in the first step. Afterwards we will have a look to organisations of the Social Economy, who are already operating according to the dimensions of sustainability and the SDGs. |
